Inside the battery account

Level 1 showed the idea. Level 2 opens the account: which numbers it keeps, where it gets tricky, and what the two wrong fixes look like up close.

In production – coming soon

The level 2 video is in production. It will appear right here.

What the video shows

  • Two numbers: the account keeps the energy and what it cost. Everything else follows from them.
  • Charging: each portion is booked at the price of the moment it came in, not at an average for the day.
  • Discharging: energy always leaves at the average price of what is inside. Taking out never moves the price.
  • Noisy readings: why a little smoothing keeps the account honest at night.
  • The almost empty battery: the same top-up from the grid gives 4 ct or 36 ct, depending on what is already inside.
  • The source rule: sun, battery or grid, checked in this order, then heat compared with heat.
  • The old rule, up close: why a rule built on the most expensive tenth of all prices blocks about one hour in ten, no matter how full the battery is.
  • Two wrong fixes and battery wear: why none of them belongs in the price.
  • Where it gets tricky: prices that aren't known yet, and readings that need an age, not just a value.

Your experience counts

Which system runs in your house, and where does it get stuck? I'd like to hear about your experiences, your doubts and your ideas, in the comments under the videos. Good ideas get picked up and built in public: as a video of their own or as an addition to an existing one.
